Short Story Sent

There's just something about submitting my heart and soul to complete strangers that turns me into a nervous wreck. I'm normally a fairly relaxed person, but this activity sets me on edge.

Maybe I just learn to care too much for my stories, who knows.

Regardless, I find I have to actually talk myself into it. Yes, Lily, the story is finished and it's time to send it off. Yes, Lily, it's good enough and there's nothing else that can be done with the story. Yes, Lily, send the damn story already and stop referring to yourself in the third person, dammit.

*sigh*

Okay, I sent it off the word doc to Morpeus Tales after making sure the doc was all in standard format (12 point times roman, 1" margins, double-spaced). I even made sure to get a name beforehand so I know who to address it to. I always prefer to personalize these things.

And now! The waiting game...

So Close

Last night, I finished the first draft of the short story. Unfortunately, once I was done, I realized I went over the word limit. 3400 words. I spent all evening shaving off 400 words. That's about a half of a page. It was really hard trying to be objective of my own work like that. But, I did it. Slimmed it down and the final word count is now 2998. Phew...

Now I will do what I can to polish up this word doc and start submitting. First submissin will go out to Morpheus Tales.

My fingers are crossed!

Also, Christian Saunders confirmed a review will be done for Eden Fell in Morpheus Tales, either January or April.

I'm looking forward to that :)

I have a new goal

Recently, authors at Damnation Books have been given the opportunity to maybe of their work reviewed in Morpheus Tales, a UK zine. I submitted Eden Fell and I'm just waiting to hear back.

I was checking out the website and liked what I saw in their publications. And more importantly, I was reminded of the short story I planned to write for November (which I'm still working on). Their guidelines state a max of 3000 words. To be honest, I had been feeling like I set the standard too high for this short story, making it a goal of 6000 words. It really is a short story.

So this is my new goal since I have been having more luck with UK zines for some reason.

Goal: Finish short story with a max of 3000 words.

I already have a decent amount written. Hopefully it won't take long. It would be a nice Christmas present to myself.
